Repair

Temperatures, pressures, airflow, electrical and combustion measured and written down, then a written price before any billable work. On an ageing oil furnace, we'll say plainly whether a repair or a conversion makes more sense.
Replacement
Sized on the house, not the old label.
Heat-loss check, ducts inspected before new equipment goes on them, and backup heat and thermostat set up properly at handover.

Autumn and spring.
